Natural Horsemanship Principles

Natural horsemanship involves training following horse friendly ways of communication. It works on establishing a unique connection with the horse, so it works in harmony with its rider. Classical dressage follows ancient methods of developing horses into athletes, who can easily and happily listen to the rider.

Both methods avoid aggressive approaches and do not try to suppress the horse’s natural instincts.

All horses under her care are kept under natural condition, in a specific way. This means they are outside all year round in settled social groups. They are therefore also not shoed. Having horses barefoot is an excellent way of improving their general health and wellbeing as well as helping to prevent permanent lameness of the foot. It does require the horse’s feet to be conditioned and hardened off, which can be labour intensive, but always worthwhile.

She provides training of horses and riders, both together and separately, as required. Since we are a fully barefoot yard, anybody interested in barefoot horses is welcome to come and see our horses and discuss their foot management.
